The immigrants have left the Law School

Just before 4am today, after marathon negotiations, the transportation of the 230 immigrants from the Law School building on Solonos to the neo-classical building in the junction of Patision and  Epirus Street was completed. The smooth process was carried out with the escort of the police at a block’s distance.

The Solidarity Movement will be in the same space, while only certain people will be allowed to visit them.

During the night there was a new impediment, as the owner of the building cited the existence of paintings in the space, saying that it is impossible for them to removed until the morning!

Amidst slogans and cheers, though, the removal in special vehicles of about 15 immigrants with burdened health was prepared, along with the transfer of goods and supplies offered by the Red Cross.
 
Petalotis’ statements about the situation

«Calmly and assuredly, and by defending the legal order and rule of law, the government ensured the peaceful and safe removal of this group from the Law School and the termination of the asylum occupation» said Petalotis, adding that «the full implementation of the immigration law recently brought to parliament by the ministry of Citizen Protection and the adoption of the most modern, progressive and effective framework in Europe constitute the obvious follow-up».

«The important role of the university authorities is also worth mentioning. By defending the university asylum, they contributed to the failure of the plans of those that had chosen to cause outbreaks of violence and tension in our country» the government spokesman concluded.

His statement was given at around 5am today after a marathon meeting in parliament.
