Reporting from Bulgaria: Panagiotis Savidis
The unrepentant Theodoros Pangalos strikes again, this time messing with a journalist of our paper when he was just trying to do his job! «Are you not ashamed?» was Pangalos’ answer upon his exit from the opening ceremony of the new unit of “Kapniki Michailidis AE” in Sandanski, Bulgaria, when asked by the journalist of Proto Thema to explain what he said about the new investment and his statement that Greeks, too, will work in the factory.
Specifically, our journalist sought an answer from Pangalos «if in this new unit, Greeks will be paid with Bulgarian wages and whether he will be satisfied with such a development». Instead of answering in his usual manner, he told the journalist twice that he should be ashamed of himself… probably for doing his job.
But who should really be ashamed Mr Pangalos? Our journalist who addressed you with a specific question, or you for not answering once again, as was the case with the revelations of Proto Thema about the royal party at King George Palace? Could it be you again, Mr vice president, with your presence in the opening of this new unit in Bulgaria that is actually a reward for transferring Greek companies and workers abroad?
But Pangalos' dissonance did not shadow the important event, attended by the Bulgarian minister of Finance, Traiko Traikov, on Saturday morning in Sandanski, 20klm from the Greco-Bulgarian border. The new investment by the “Kapniki Michailidis AE” group will work as an enforcement to the central unit at Polikastro in Kilkis, is worth 9,5mil euros and capable of producing up to 6 tons per hour with pre-treatment of Bulgarian and Greek tobacco, and will employ 48 permanent and 504 temporary workers.
Commenting on Pangalos’ statement that «in the factory of Bulgaria Greeks will be employed too» the president of the group, Alexandros Michailidis, stated that up to 10 senior managers will be employed from Greece, not workers on the production line. He also said that this new unit will create 30 new positions at the central unit in Palaiokastro and that there is no salary in his group in Greece which is under 1.000 euros.
