Papoulias: With guileless patriotism we shall overcome any crisis

«A message for all of us. Guileless patriotism throws us into battle to overcome any crisis or difficulty. And we will make it» answered the president of democracy Karolos Papoulias when asked about the message of the struggles of the women of Epirus, who were at the forefront of the nation’s battles and carrying the canons of the
Greek army to siege Bizani and free Ioannina.

Papoulias reached the Tseritsiana mountain village of Ioannina at noon, where he placed a wreath on the monument that dominates the village. In 1912-13 the Greek army was attacking Bizani from the sides and for a successful campaign the canons had to be brought up to Olitsika mountain. The women of the area offered to do this and so the Greek army succeeded in later freeing Ioannina. The monument erected in the
village is dedicated to them.

This event opened the 3-day celebrations for the 98th anniversary of the liberation of Ioannina. The events will continue tomorrow and will be completed on Monday with a big parade in the center of the capital of Epirus.
