Petrol prices climb high

Greek consumers are experiencing unprecedented conditions.

Greek consumers are experiencing unprecedented conditions. Along with the very big increases in oil and gas, which created a huge increase in all product prices- that is more than the 5% of the inflation, comes the new pricing in industrial produce.

The Greek Statistical Service has revealed that their price index has increased by 7,3% in January on an annual basis, which means during a period before the increase in petrol and the dramatic situation in Libya, which caused increases of more than 100 dollars per barrel even in crude oil.

Between January 2011 and January 2009 the increase was just 5%. Furthermore, increases are relevant to most products such as food, paper, plastic, etc. and they are even larger in import re-pricings. The index of the external market has increased  by 9,4% in January, with large increases especially in metal produce, paper and cloth materials, as well as tobacco and food…

Currently, illegal profits are being made in petrol. The average price for unleaded is 1,64 euros per litre and the heating petrol is 0.85 euros per litre, with petrol station owners and merchants in the provinces selling at around 1.90 and 1 euro respectively. On Thursday there will be a conference of all merchants although there isn’t much hope for a price decrease.
