The unbeareable reality of numbers...

Bad news for January, too, as reported by OAED report. Compared to December:

Unemployment increased by 5,51%

Recruitment announcements decreased by 16,71%

Lay-offs increased by 7,06%

Subsidised unemployment was reduced by 7,06%, which indicates that more and nore people remain unemployed for more than a year!
 
For January the unemployed reached 689.558, of which 295.529 were men (42,86%) and 394.029 women (57,14%).

63,31% is between 30-54 years old, 28,29% is below 30 and 9,4% is over 55.

The secondary education level makes up 45,76% of the registered unemployed,  the compulsory level (up to the third  class of junior high school) 38.83%, the higher education level 14,09% and the non-educated 1,32%.

92,26% are Greek citizens, 6,15% are citizens of other countries and 1,59% are European citizens.
 
The number of the subsidized unemployed is 258.285 and has been reduced by 19,619, a rate of -7,06% compared with December. Of the total unemployed subsidies, 57,21% are common subsidies, 29,27% come from seasonal tourism jobs, 10,11% are other seasonal subsidies,  3,1% is subsidized builders, 0,20% are other subsidies and  0,10% are subsidized teachers.
 
Recruitment announcements amounted to 49.626, a decrease of 16,71% compared to January 2010.
 
Layoffs (complaints on permanent contracts) amounted to 30.481 (an increase of 2,62% over the previous month), the maturities of fixed-term contracts came to 25.530 (reduced by 17,04% over the previous month) and voluntary withdrawals were 22.610 (reduced by 0,19% over the previous month).
 
All complaints on permanent contracts and fixed-term maturities amounted to 56.011, 45,58% of which is due to departures from the labor market due to fixed-term maturities. This figure is up by 6,58% compared with January 2010 (52.552) and reduced by 7.38% from the previous December (60.476).
 
Net flows of salaried employment in the private sector amounted to -28.995 against -16,273 in January 2010 and -33455 in previous December.
