Goodbye and silence...

The General Secretary and former Minister Dimitris Georgakopoulos has departed in absolute silence, leaving the IRS machine without a leader.

His resignation is considered by many to be long overdue, since his relationship with the Minister Mr.Papakostantinou has been very tense after a year of practically having nothing to do with all the decision making being carried out by the Minister and the close circle of his chosen few, something that was a common secret in the Ministry. Mr Georgakopoulos had to support the positions of the Ministry without influencing them at all.

According to sources, the timing is not random since in the coming weeks new problems in the Greek economy will arise, mostly because of failures of the government to apply more pressure so that debt collection by the IRS to become a reality, something that comes into contrast with promises that were made before the elections (Mr. Georgakopoulos was the main creator of the PASOK promises concerning the economy).

According to sources Mr. Georgakopoulos is considering sending a letter to the PM with notes on his stay at the Ministry, as well as remarks as to why the money is being spent inappropriately.
