Minister of Finance Giorgos Papakonstantinou is receiving one slap in the face after another. Meanwhile, there is serious concern within the government about the state of the economy, with S&P’s recent depreciation on what concerns the Greek government bond. Thus, Health Minister Andreas Loverdos unleashed a bomb during his speech on the Stavropoulos and Verikios program on Radio 9, directly stating that the government has not told the Greek people the whole truth about the economy.

“Taking European standards as granted, we are currently suffering in Greece at this time of crisis from a lack of conviction about what we have to do. I have said it many times and I will say it again publicly and very strongly. I firmly insist on my position that the Greek crisis cannot be overcome if the government continues to display a guilty political discourse, and is not confident about what we are doing. All ministers would like it better if we were able to give the people a higher income. This cannot be done in a country in crisis, and in order to get out of this crisis, we must keep pushing onwards without shame, and we cannot face the citizens if we do not speak the truth about the actual fiscal situation of the country”.

Also, during a question on whether some people should just go home, the minister said that the government should come forward and tell the whole truth about the country’s finances to the world, since the truth cannot be mentioned in “installments” and must be told as a whole. He underlined that there is no room for procrastination.
