IRS raids main shopping areas

The tax office for merchandise has carried out inspections at the Ermou shopping area, where officials discovered that apart from street merchants who sell fake bags, copies of famous brands, in the actual shops there was fake merchandise posing as the real thing.

During the inspection, the authorities discovered a small factory of leather goods where fakes were produced. During the search in shops those leather goods were discovered, posing as authentic merchandise.

250 items were confiscated in the factory and shops. Another incident occurred in a luxurious house in Alimos. The basement had been transformed into a factory where shoes were being manufactured and were presented as authentic designer items. The owner fled and his assets are being investigated.

The third incident occurred in the area of the Athenian China Town (Evripidou Street), where 4.000 pairs of shoes of an famous athletic brand were found to be fakes. The paperwork showed that 10000 pairs had been imported. All of the items were confiscated.
