Increased fuel prices, coupled with the economic crunch of Greek households, give a boost to the use of the buses and OSE bullet trains for Easter excursions.
Athenians have started filing out toward their hometowns, with students being the first in line, while traffic is expected to peak between Wednesday and Thursday.
It’s worth noting that the traffic on KTEL buses is recording an increase compared to last year’s numbers, aided greatly by the increased petrol prices.
KTEL buses will try to cover the increased traffic with extra routes, since they are considered one of the cheapest means of transport, as confirmed by Harilaos Foukas, the director of the Central Station of Interurban Buses in Athens.
Indicative of the situation is the fact that if a person wishes to travel from Athens to Thessaloniki by bus, they will spend 64 euros, whereas if they use their own car they will spend about 220 euros. So, the cost will be smaller for a family of 3, while it will become unbearable for a family of 4 or more.

Finally, it is worth noting that Traffic Police are already on alert, initiating extra measures from Holy Thursday.
