Police in Alexandroupolis, NE Greece, in cooperation with Frontex forces, intercepted eight illegal immigrants in the Peplo district (Evros prefecture) on the Greek-Turkish frontier, as was announced on Thursday.

The illegal immigrants were spotted by a Frontex aircraft patrolling the area, and were intercepted while disembarking from a flimsy inflatable craft onto the Greek bank of the Evros River. A pair of migrant smugglers managed to flee back to the Turkish side of the river, authorities said.
