A serious incident including shooting almost turned a calm morning in Evros into a diplomatic incident. Turkish traffickers who tried to cross the Greek border with about 100 immigrants opened fire against Greek police with shotguns. No injuries occurred. After Turkish police took over, the illegal immigrants were arrested. It is yet unclear if the traffickers were also caught.

It all began late last night when Greek border patrol found a group of illegal immigrants trying to enter Hellenic territory from illegal crossings. Immediately, border patrol guards were mobilized and began shadowing the traffickers.

Τhis morning when the traffickers decided to cross the immigrants into Greece and realized they were being watched, they opened fire with shotguns, thankfully resulting in no injuries. The Greek border patrol left the location, while the illegal immigrants were arrested by Turkish police.
