The PASOK PG was shocked and awed by the publication of the implementation law by the leadership of the finance ministry. As much as they were expecting the severity of the new measures, they could not have foreseen the actual contents. Equally harsh reactions are expected, since more than 5 MPs confessed in private talks that they are in a very difficult spot. On one hand, if they cast a positive vote the 5th installment will be released but on the other, they won’t know how to deal with the reactions of their electors.

The toughest criticism will come the PASOK MPs week, when the discussion will commence in parliament. In fact, there are many who are thinking of requesting the former finance minister (and now environment minister) Giorgos Papakonstantinou’s resignation.

Deputy PM and finance minister Evaggelos Venizelos will try to contact a lot of PASOK members in order to explain and convince them about the need for the new measures. He has already announced his attempt to meet with MP Thomas Robopoulos, who is feared to vote against the mid-term. Robopoulos stated on Friday that he will not vote in favor of the mid-term, being very disappointed by the way the government has handled the negotiations with the Troika.

During next week a lot of things will be judged. The election scenario is back again and everything depends on how many MPs will vote against the controversial bill. However, the possibility that it will pass and yet the government might still be in danger of falling is considered real, since if 3 MPs vote against the bill, the government will come face to face with its greatest political problem so far.
