Ieronimos' dramatic intervention about the new measures

The “plight of the Greeks” is described by Archbishop of Athens Ieronimos in letters sent to Finance Minister Evangelos Venizelos and the Director of the Bank of Greece, Giorgos Provopoulos.

The Archbishop states: “Many people have reached their limit and any further pressure may cause great suffering”. At the same time, he submits proposals for the relief of the Greeks from the pain of new measures, as mentioned in the letters.

He emphasizes that we cannot ignore it when so many young people are worried and experience uncertainty, or the betrayal and indignation of our fellow people.

While Mr. Ieronimos makes a number of proposals for the relief of the populace, he mainly suggests:

-   The suspension of auctions by Greek banks of the assets of all those who have received a big or small loan to buy a first home.
-   Strengthening the measures for sustainable development and entrepreneurship
-   A review of the tight fiscal taxation framework, based on equal participation in national debt amortization.

If  implemented, says the Archbishop, these measures have the power to alleviate the pain of our suffering people.
