the most dramatic parliamentary vote in recent times, that of the
mid-term, so that no issues of political stability would arise in the
future.
The ratification has come as an absolute condition of the Troika, at least verbally, so as to continue the lending to our country and avoid immediate bankruptcy. This threat seems to have bent the resistance of the last of the dissident MPs from PASOK. The leadership of the ruling party only fears the differentiation of Alekos Athanasiadis and perhaps of one more MP, either Chryssa Arapoglou or someone else who has refrained from openly speaking up and is waiting to create a surprise. In any event, if differentiations remain one or two, the situation is completely under control, but if they exceed 3 and regardless of the fact that PASOK will still maintain a parliamentary majority, it appears that it will bring problems in the future.
However, PASOK expresses its hopes that there will be up to 3 or 5 affirmative votes from the Democratic Alliance, which has decided to vote according to conscience, or even from New Democracy, such as from Elsa Papadimitriou.
Besides the threats from Maximou, Venizelos' background meetings played an important role as well.
Nevertheless, Vasso Papandreou gave the signal for ratification, Thomas Robopoulos “turned around”, as he had been against the mid-term up to now, and there is no issue with Panagiotis Kouroublis. Sifis Valirakis will move along the same lines, even though he appeared to be thinking about it.
