“Yes to layoffs, but under conditions”

Αdministrative Reform Minister Dimitris Reppas said to journalists on Wednesady that one of the main points of the new public sector payroll will be the connection between the salary and the administrative grade of each employee, deduced from their evaluation status.

On top of that, from now on, and always according to the future payroll, employees will be considered as state personnel, not as belonging to each ministry’s work force any longer. The new regulation is considered tobe helpful for future cases demanding the transfer of workers from certain areas of the public sector to other positions in the same field.

Regarding layoffs in the public sector, Reppas clarified that they will happen, but under conditions. In the case that civil servants are unable to meet the conditions of the implementation law, such as not changing posts or working part-time, or signing fixed-term contracts, then yes, many of them will find themselves in the firing line.
