Kaminis: Tents off Syntagma Sq.!

Mr Kaminis, the Mayor of Athens, will try to stop what is happening in Syntagma Square, and today he is meeting with representatives of the merchants of Athens and the Working Centre of Athens, as well as the Regional Head of Attica, Mr.Sgouros. Representatives of the Indignants will be present in the meeting.

The Mayor and the Regional Head met this morning to walk around central points of Athens and see how they can change the situation that the historic city center is in. The discussion concerned new ways to upgrade the center and speaking on Mega Channel, they said they have seen some areas improving, such as Theatrou Sq. Their focus is now on Syntagma Square and the situation with the tents, which is not the optimum one.

”We would like a peaceful conversation with our fellow citizens”, said Mr.Kaminis, “in order to work towards a good image of the center during the tourist period”.

He mentioned that today he will meet with the heads of merchant committees and other individuals involved with the City Centre to ask for their help. Mr Sgouros underlined that there is a need to demolish buildings and create green areas and to improve all neo-classical derelict buildings by renovating them so that they can host public services and bring life to the city.
