Indignant "I am not paying taxes" movement

After the Indignant citizen movement at the tolls, another Indignation movement of “I am not paying taxes” has already emerged on the scene. The Treasury has figured out that thousands of households have stopped paying due to lack of funds, thus many payments of the 2010 income tax have been missed, as well as arrears payments.

Close associates of Deputy prime Minister and Finance Minister Mr. Evangelos Venizelos now confess that “we have already estimated that within the next six months, due to the great reductions in the taxable incomes of taxpayers (layoffs, salary reductions), we will not meet the extraordinary contributions (income and privately owned cars) that follow, thus resulting in a deviation amounting to 3.5-4 billion euros from the 6.5-billion measures taken by the government according to the Medium Term Plan”. The same associate of the Finance Minister stated in “THEMA” that “the presence of taxpayers owing money in tax collection offices is decreasing daily. This last Friday we were told of a case of a tax payer without employment who owes 3000 euros, has paid no installments since last year and will have to pay an extra 1000 euros. This person is desperate, and he is not the only one. Even then, he was sent an informative letter calling him to pay”. The government still comments on the tax collectors’ strike which, over the last year and after salary reductions, has stopped working. The economy team openly admits that “they do not do audits and even prevent high-income businessmen who want to 'sort out' prior obligations, from doing so”.
