The government Vice President and minister of Finance, Evangelos Venizelos, sent a message from parliament to all the Greeks who have bank deposits abroad but have neglected finishing with their financial business in abeyance in the country. Venizelos made it clear that now all evidence is at the government’s disposal and will be thoroughly checked.

Moreover, the minister said that negotiations with Switzerland will lead to the signing of a bilateral agreement which will enable the government to get full information on suspect accounts by “neutralizing” the banking system confidentiality.

“There is no need for any Greek citizen to deposit their money abroad since the local system is fully secured. I do not comprehend anyone who, without the sense of patriotism during such turbulent times, does not wish to support the country. It is a patriotic duty to enhance the banking system so people can benefit from it”, underlined Venizelos.

Moreover, the finance minister announced the possibility of introducing new measures which will also check where politicians and high-ranking government officials got their money from.  He said that within the coming days he will be having a meeting on the matter with the president of parliament, Filippos Petsalnikos.

Venizelos stressed that the banking system is strong, guaranteed and safe, something which becomes evident through the stress tests it has been undergone. Last but not least, the minister mentioned that the new multi-faceted law includes the regulations and tax control for slot machines and betting.
