The revelation of an illegally built family house amidst woodland in Vravrona raises a serious political and moral issue for the Environment minister. His mother is the owner of a holiday home in an area under reforestation, at the Hamolias settlement. According to the Director of Forests of Eastern Attica Anastasios Kazasis, the house is unauthorised and illegal, with a demolition decision pertaining to it.

Papakonstantinou’s mother, along with other owners of arbitrary houses in the area, have appealed to justice and the Environment ministry in order to legitimise their houses inside the reforestation area.

So, the minister is called upon to decide between the interests of his mother and of the state… This revelation creates many additional questions as to Papakonstantinou’s study to minimise the law exemptions he prepared for the owners of illegally built houses in order for them to legitimise them. “May he legitimise our house too, even if we are in the woods”, say the owners of such houses in the area, and it just might be that the minister will do them this favour…
