The golden girls of water polo

The Hellenic national women's water polo team are enjoying the view from the top in Shanghai and all of Greece celebrates with them. Our representatives made history, since it is the first women’s team to win a gold medal in a World event.

The national women’s water polo team “drowned” China in their “home turf” (9-8), won the gold medal and… silenced all other team sports in our country!

Consistent with their rendezvous with success, the beautiful girls of coach Morfesis became the only team that has found itself on the podium in all major events (Olympics, European and World championships)!

As in the semifinal, Asimaki was the one that scored first for our team. Greece’s goalpost was besieged for about two minutes, but Kouvdou managed to keep the Chinese at zero, not for long, though, since the Chinese team took advantage of the power play and tied the score, 1-1.

Roumpesi gave a temporary advantage to our team, with the host immediately responding with 2-2. Defenses “tightened up” and the game continued with great interest and fighting spirit until the final whistle.
