The new plan of the Ministry of Finance is to fight heavily against all tax evasion. It will target owners of big property and the top 1000 of the largest companies in Greece.

For this reason, the Ministry is creating new offices for “Rambo tax officials” who will audit big companies and owners. The goal is to investigate companies the profits of which exceed 40 milion euros, as well as tax payers that owe more than 150,000 euros and owners of property that goes beyond the 1-million-euro mark.

In recent inspections, the Ministry tracked down 8,700 owners of such property that have not filed the necessary paperwork for that property. The checks were for the 1997-2007 decade and the owners were called upon to pay the taxes in arrears. Unfortunately, only one out of six did so, and now the “Rambo tax officials” are trying to track them down in order to collect the tax.

The hunt for tax evasion will also include the top 1000 of the largest companies in Greece which earn more than 40 million euros. The new “super IRS” teams will have extra authority to proceed with the immediate collection of taxes.

There will be 100 partners from the private sector to aid with the tax collection. The plan stipulates that each of these 100 partners will be responsible for 150 owers that owe the State more than 150,000 euros each.
