The successive meetings between Evangelos Venizelos and the Troika on
Wednesday evening and Thursday morning will judge the fate of the single
payroll in the narrow and broader public sector.
Essentially, the new payroll will be finalised in the meeting with the representatives of our lenders, although it was not discussed in the cabinet meeting on Tuesday.
According to well-informed sources, the first and main issue is that the cuts in public sector salaries should be implemented by October 1st, earlier than the pre-scheduled 2012, in order to address the failures in the public deficit.
The fate of the discussions is anticipated with suspense not only by representatives of workers but also by members of the government, as it it will eventually determine the fate of the individual agreements made with the unionists on special payrolls.
As it is known, in many cases the agreements were suspended before great strikes by public employees could take place in August, with the government's assurance that employees will retain the income that exceeds the single payroll, as an individual divergence
But if this is reversed and the individual divergences get restricted or eliminated, which is where the Troika appears to be pushing towards, it could lead to very strong social and political reactions.
