Y. Vardinoyiannis: “Forget our involvement with Panathinaikos”

Yiannis Vardinoyiannis announced that his family leaving Panathinaikos after 32 years is irreversible. “Shares are becoming inactive and are granted without any fees”, he underlined, adding that there is no way of backing down from his decision.

Yiannis Vardinoyiannis marked the end of an era for “the shamrock”.

“There is no option other than my family leaving the team. We are under a cowardly attack. We will put an end to that. We are leaving the team and are able to say that after 32 years, Panathinaikos will move ahead without the support of the Vardinoyiannis family. We are leaving immediately and are making our shares inactive and handing them over to attorneys of an Athens law firm. The Amateur team is already under Court administration and cannot bear any more burden”.

“We would be very happy to concede our shares to anyone, even Mr. Pateras, Vgenopoulos or the Gianakopoulos brothers. This is a realistic option. Suffice it to say that discussions  should take place privately and not through the press”.

“I wish to thank a big part of the Panathinaikos people. People working at the football club.  My friend, Christos Athanasopoulos, even though he is no longer with us. I want to thank two footballers who should be a model for all team players, Yiannis Goumas and Loukas Vyntra, who were insulted by people yet never stopped working. Spyros Levathinos and Velic, who received unfair criticism. And Petros Kokallis; if he had not been cut off from the team in order to allow Olympiacos to win yet another championship, Greek football today would be much better."
