It seems that the government is walking on the edge of a cliff, with the dead ends of the economic policies weighing heavily, the risk of bankruptcy coming closer and closer...

Even in terms of political symbolism, the government seems to admit that there is a huge problem, and announcements on key decisions by the cabinet were made by Evangelos Venizelos and not the Prime Minister. George Papandreou seems to keep communication distances from the attempted effort to achieve the implementation of the commitments toward the Troika.

With Venizelos' statements, the government proceeded to a sensational and well-understood confession: that they have done almost nothing for the year it took to implement a series of changes in the public sector and the productive fabric of the country.

And it is forced to do all those things in a very short time, under the threat of the Troika, which has identified tragic delays and put into question the continuation of our loan.

It is certain that he government is held in a vice and with the fear for the worst dominating the Greek society, it has to pass painful changes, depress social conditions even further and collide with the fair or unfair interests of social groups.

Even the ministers do not know what is worse: the government being able to pass the measures or not? And if it does pass them, it is likely there will be dramatic consequences, whether they lead the country into bankruptcy, or the government itself to abandon its effort in a politically painful way.

But even if it does pass them, not only will it have to face huge political and social costs, but it might also fail to save the country from bankruptcy, simply because it is too late to reverse economic fundamentals and also, the Troika decisions are not taken based on the specific performance of the Greek government, but on the broader data coming from Europe.
