Mr.Samaras was very critical against the government and Mr.Papandreou, and that indicated there will be no consensus. "Growth first and then stabilization" said Mr.Samaras, and asked for the decrease of taxes and for the tax authorities to be more strict.
He talked about the new taxes on property "I'm not saying people shouldn't pay. I am saying that people can't pay".
He asked for taxes on business at 15%, for individuals to go back to 40%, for VAT to go back to 18% and for the tax-free income to go to 12,000 euros.
He also proposed a re-evaluation of
the Constitution and the merging of ministries - for a maximum of 12
Ministries - and a full restructuring of public services. He accepted
the need to reduce the number of public servants but disagreed with mass dismissals
in the public sector.
He accused the PM of "blackmailing for elections and dealing with things in such an unprofessional way that it led to
the Memorandum". He also mentioned the accusations that came
forward from former members of the Greek Statistical Authority that
numbers were meddled with in order to apply the IMF Memorandum. He also noted that 10 of the 36 million euros that
were added to the debt were the result of the PASOK government.
In
general, he accused PASOK of wrong manoeuvres which led to the
collapse of society. In regards to society's reactions, he mentioned
he is against radical actions and vandalism but can understand that people are
angry.
He gave his own views on the talks with European
leaders, supporting that "we ask that we have a chance to amend the
situation and the mistakes of the past. Greece is a part of Europe
and will be in the euro". He asked for Greeks to support him,
saying that the government is failing and is sending the country down
the drain.
Lastly, he talked about the natural wealth and resources of Greece, clarifying that selling is different from selling out. He didn't fail to attack the PM on his foreign policies, especially as regards Russia, since he didn't make the decision to declare the Exclusive Financial Zone.
