They are warming up to the idea of escape via elections

The voices within PASOK about resorting to early elections in autumn and just after the clarification of the situation with the 6th tranche - that is, whether it will be given to our country or not - are becoming stronger. Until now, there have only been isolated voices in the cabinet, two or maybe three ministers who supported the alternative of elections. But with the latest tax storms, other MPs have joined in and are sounding the alarm about the risk of the party’s dissolution if PASOK continues on this course.

In the latest meetings of the parliamentary bodies of PASOK, the idea of ​​elections by November is heard more and more often, even though Prime Minister George Papandreou especially has categorically dismissed it. Finance Minister Evangelos Venizelos is not negative, but avoids flaring up election rumors so as not to come into conflict with Papandreou.

The same atmosphere prevails in the central party mechanism, since the messages from the base are dramatic. Experienced executives from Ippokratous Str. believe that the sooner they move to elections, the more likely it would be to salvage the party from the impending great fall.
