“If you want to remain in the Eurozone, meet your Troika obligations!”

The German chancellor Angela Merkel expressed to the Greek premier, George Papandreou her wish that Greece would remain a euro zone member. At the same time she said that something like this will only be achieved if the country sticks to the promises made to the Troika about the fast implementation of the austerity measures.

That was the first time the issue of Greece remaining in, or exiting the Eurozone was put on the table and discussed officially. On the contrary, sources have said that the haircut of the Greek debt was not on the agenda of the two leaders.

Germany is to vote for the implementation of the July 21st agreement on Thursday. The outcome of the voting is considered crucial.
