Older and less educated civil servants out of public services

Finance minister Evangelos Venizelos, minister of administrative reform Dimitris Reppas, justice minister Harris Castanidis and labour minister Giorgos Koutroumanis stayed up all night trying to plan as justly as possible the rules according to which public services supernumerary personnel will be included in the labour reserve bank.

The Troika is asking for more cutbacks, while at the same time pushing the ministers to act as promised and as fast as possible, now that the inspectors have returned to Athens.

The measure will be decided upon this coming Sunday, but the ministers must also make sure that if employees are finally laid off and ask for compensation, the government will be able to provide them with it.

Sources report that in case a name appears on the list of labour reserve, it will be necessary for the worker to be asked if he/she agrees to it. In this way, if there are law suits against the public sector in the future, the latter will manage to deal with them.

Although voting on the measure is to take place on Sunday, the government is still undecided concerning who will and who won’t be included in the labour reserve bank.

At the moment there is an ongoing meeting at the ministry of finance focused on the new tax measures and the draft plan for the state budget.  Following its conclusion, Venizelos will meet the Troika inspectors and inform them on developments.
