Prime Minister George Papandreou will probably be travelling to Brussels within the week in order to meet with European Council President, Mr. Herman Van Rompuy.

The two men had a telephone conversation on Monday afternoon, in which “developments in the EU and the Eurozone”, were discussed, as well as issues “concerning Greece and its economy”.

The Prime Minister will meet with PASOK MPs within the week, also holding meetings with ministers, while the cabinet meeting is scheduled for Wednesday. He will also be communicating with European leaders of the Eurozone.

During a conversation with journalists, Government spokesman Mr. Elias Mossialos expressed his satisfaction on the decision of bank recapitalization, as well as the discussion iniiated on the issue of Europe-wide financial governance, after the meeting between Mr. Nicolas Sarkozy and German Chancellor Angela Merkel.

As the government spokesman stated, the issues arising from these meetings will result in greater financial protection of the Eurozone, while they move in the general direction of providing a legally secure solution to the debt crisis.

Finally, Mr. Mossialos stated that any changes to the July 21st Agreement will be for the better, as the agreement constitutes the minimum expectations of Greece.
