Papandreou’s successive meetings in Brussels and Washington

Athens is on an open line with EU and IMF. George Papandreou spoke on the phone with Christine Lagarde today and asked to meet in Washington. According to information, the trip will probably take place next Tuesday but will depend on the schedule of President Obama since apart from the IMF, the Greek PM is seeking to visit the White House.

Athens’ aim is to not leave developments that directly concern it in the hands of Germany and France. In order to influence decisions and get back into the circle of the decision-making partners, Papandreou had a telephone conversation with Jean-Claude Juncker, whom he will see tomorrow afternoon in Brussels, while earlier he will meet with the European Council president, Herman Van Rompuy.
