Today’s demonstration against the government’s measures was marred by clashes.

Crowd participation exceeded 120000 but shortly after noon, clashes erupted in front of the House, leading Athens to becoming a war zone once more.

Conflicts between indignant protesters and police, molotovs, firecrackers, flares and many fires composed the “explosive” scene in the center of the city.

Extensive episodes occurred outside the House, with protesters throwing Molotov cocktails, flares, firecrackers, wood and other items against squads of riot police who are still lined outside the House. Police responded by using chemicals to repel them.

Protesters did not hesitate to destroy a part of the “Attica” mall, or even street lights. Voukourestiou Street witnessed clashes between protesting taxi drivers and police, with the former throwing rocks after setting up roadblocks.

The monument of the unknown soldier was engulfed in flames, while a group of unknown individuals took the gun of a special guard. Fire broke out at the ETHEL box office on FIlleninon Street.

Earlier on Wednesday,  young protesters tried to demolish the metal fence erected outside Parliament since this morning.

The majority of protesters left after 6pm, after a coordinated Police effort.

During the protests, 38 police officers and 6 citizens were wounded, who were promptly hospitalized.

The question is who will clean up the city center from rocks and barricades when the cleaning municipal workers are still on strike.

Mass protests all over Greece.

Participation in marches in many major cities is widespread. Under the gaze of strong police forces, angry citizens are destroying bank branches in Volos.

Thousands of strikers lined the streets of Chania, Heraklion, Rerthymno, Sitia, Ierapetra and Agios Nikolaos.

In Heraklion, people from the antiauthoritarian field damaged a police car parked outside the courthouse.

The volume of demonstrators in Thessaloniki is great, while gallows were erected outside the General  Secretariat of Macedonia and Thrace by workers who were reacting to measures.
