Violent clashes in Syntagma square

AScenes of war are unfolding at this time in Syntagma square. Anarchist groups have engaged in an unprecedented stone throwing fight with PAME members.. EKAB received a call from the Red Cross rescuers in Syntagma Square about a demonstrator having suffered severe head injuries due to a fall.

The tension began when a group of anarchists broke the human chain formed by PAME and did not hesitate to throw Molotov cocktails at the crowd itself. At the same time, outside the Monument of the Unknown Soldier, they are continuing to throw stones in every direction.

Information refers to at least 16 injured individuals transported to Evangelismos hospital.

At the corner of Philellinon and Mitropoleos, a group of youngsters loaded a supermarket trolley with a “pit” of stones and marbles dismantled from Fillelinon 1, wore hoods and headed towards the plaza.

Syntagma square is still full of thousands of protesters a day after the unprecedented participation in the Wednesday rally, which was overshadowed by violence between riot police and mask-wearing protesters.

Trade unions have announced an encirclement of Parliament until this evening, which will include the KKE.
