Besides PM Giorgos Papandreou, Evangelos Venizelos and the deputy PM’s
physician also boarded the Prime Minister’s aircraft, bound for Cannes. On a flight for strong stomachs, a cardiologist would be preferable to the pathologist of the Central Clinic who is attending to Evangelos Venizelos and delays - through medications- the appendicitis surgery which should be addressed.
The trip will have three stages:
First, while heading there: Giorgos Papandreou will ask Evangelos Venizelos if he had anything to do with the actions of members such as Milena Apostolakis and Eva Kaili, as they are the latter's interlocutors. The Finance Minister will respond negatively.
Secondly, on arrival: G. Papandreou and Evangelos Venizelos will attempt to keep the October 26th agreement alive. The former needs an “OK” for the referendum.
Thirdly, during the return: On the return flight, the scenarios are going to go according to the Cannes mission. If the mission fails, it is quite possible the Evangelos Venizelos will ask the PM to proceed with political reform, either a change of leadership or elections after the enactment of the new loan agreement. The PM will respond negatively. Of course, if things go well in Cannes, then they will just have to agree on their Parliament speeches.
P.S. The other vice president, Theodoros Pangalos, is to be found in distant China. According to the statement issued yesterday at least, it is still unclear if he will be around for the crucial vote of confidence in the government tomorrow. Will he make it in time?
