Papandreou and Samaras visit the President

The dramatic cabinet meeting of Sunday is in progress, at which PM George Papandreou is about to clarify the situation and his intentions.

Reportedly, after the cabinet meeting Mr. Papandreou and Mr. Samaras will go to the presidential palace in order to meet with the President, and come to a decision on a  commonly approved Prime Minister.

Specifically, the PM stated - while in the cabinet - that he asked the President to invite the leader of the opposition to a joint meeting of the three. At the heart of the nomenclature is former PM adviser and former Vice President of the ECB, former Governor of TtE, Mr. Lucas Papademos.

It still remains possible that the council of political leaders will convene, while there is no question of the government’s resignation.

George Papandroeu wishes for a government with the participation of opposition parties, but he is willing to offer his resignation in order to get the new loan agreement voted for by a large majority. The final deal with opposition leaders will determine the timetable of events from now on and the developments within the ruling party.
