Samaras: All will get under way when Papandreou resigns

After meeting with Karolos Papoulias, ND president Antonis Samaras said “as long as Papandreou is not resigning he is blocking any possible solution, even those provided by our constitution. I am willing to help and when he resigns everything will get under way”.

After meeting with Karolos Papoulias, ND president Antonis Samaras said “as long as Papandreou is not resigning he is blocking any possible solution, even those provided by our constitution. I am willing to help and when he resigns everything will get under way”.

While being welcomed by Papoulias, Samaras said “I understand the agony of the Greek people. Everyone must assume their responsibilities; we must send a message of stability to the outside and of normality to the inside."

“Indeed, it is our responsibility to provide an answer to the Greek people’s question. We must be done with it today”, said Papoulias.

It is quite clear that ND demands Papandreou’s resignation to advance any further developments in the political field. They know that things have reached a crucial point for the country due to the developments in the EU and the tight pressure on the political system for a solution of broader consensus.

They dismiss any rumors about discussing a coalition government or having received a proposal for one, with Petros Moliviatis or Stavros Dimas at its head. The ND vice president, whose name has been mentioned in political and press offices, says he has not received such a proposal and that any discussion will be carried out with the president of ND as he fully supports him.

When Papandreou resigns procedures will be unblocked and ND will enter the debate with the proposal it has filed for a transitional government to sign the loan agreement, secure the 6th tranche of the loan and lead the country to elections in mid December, so that the government can receive a fresh mandate and the people’s support to negotiate the mix of economic policy and also have the tolerance of society to implement any additional measures. The ND leadership says there is no problem with the elections since, as it is expressly stated in the conclusions of the summit, the 6th tranche of the loan for Greece has been decided.
