"A letter signed by the government, Papandreou and Samaras is a prerequisite for the release of the sixth tranche to Greece."

German deputy finance minister Jörg Asmussen, could not have been clearer in his interview to Deutsche Welle.

The German politician said he feels confident that the new Greek government "knows exactly what to do now and will do it." He expressed himself in the most positive manner about Lucas Papademos, knowing him very well from his tenure at the ECB, and stressed that both Greece and other Eurozone countries facing similar economic problems must understand that "the only way to recover debt sustainability is to implement monetary measures!"

In a parallel development, IMF representative David Holley spoke about the need for "broad support" on the measures decided at the last summit and made it clear that the release of the 6th installment will only come after the guarantees of the new government about implementing the measures.

He stated that "we are ready to cooperate with the coalition government and when the broad political support for the measures in the program is ensured, then we will proceed with the completion of the fifth revision of the memorandum. We will not describe the form these guarantees will take"…
