Foreign Minister Stavros Dimas will be asked to analyze the European prospects of the German foreign policy in the Foreign Policy Forum in Berlin.
Foreign Minister Stavros Dimas will be asked to analyze the European prospects of the German foreign policy in the Foreign Policy Forum in Berlin.
It is the first "outing" of a top government official from New Democracy and coincidentally it comes just days after the fermentations concerning the letter of Samaras.
German foreign minister Guido Westerwelle and head of Polish diplomacy Radoslaw Sikorski will also take part In the debate on Tuesday November 29.
Dimas is expected to argue that the debt problem of the Eurozone is not a Greek issue and note that Greece has not only made great efforts, but is also constantly demonstrating its determination to overcome the crisis and do whatever it takes to ensure the position of the country in the euro and in Europe.
In the context of his recent tenure as commissioner of the European Commission, Dimas will seek to convey the message that many times the country's image and the efforts of citizens are distorted both by negative press criticism and attacks from analysts, some of whom have anticipated the country’s exit from the Eurozone.
"Currently in Greece, there is a government that has undertaken a very difficult task, but is determined to carry it out to the end. It is the implementation of the decisions of October 26, which will shield the Greek economy and ensure the next steps to get the country out of the crisis," said foreign ministry spokesman Gregory Delavekouras.
Next Tuesday afternoon, Dimas will hold talks with his German counterpart Guido Westerwelle. The Greek minister is expected to seek the assistance of Westerwelle to stop the downgrading of Greece’s credibility at a time when it is important to invest and create jobs in the country in order to emerge out of the recession cycle.
As the spokesman of the Greek foreign ministry said, "this time it is important for Europeans to speak with one voice, not as individual countries. If Europe does not speak with one voice, it will become a sitting duck much easier."
