A man was found injured at Syntagma Square in the city centre of Athens, after the demonstration of the Athens Labour Centre at the Greek parliament building finished. Eyewitnesses said that the injured person was attacked by about 20 hooded youths who were yelling that he was a policeman.

Riot police arrived on the spot while the attacked individual was receiving first aid.

Earlier in the day, in major squares of the capital many were the workers who demonstrated in the framework of the 24hour strike in the prefecture of Attica, opposing governmental measures, mainly focusing on the ones regarding Labour.

PAME demonstrators, who gathered at Omonoia square before marching to the parliament, reached 3,000.

Major Labour unions such as GSEE support the strike and called for mass opposition to fight the belt-tightening measures which the country’s leadership is about to impose.

State bank workers, doctors and journalists are but a few groups of employees participating in this strike.

More particularly, journalists working in state and private media are on a 48hour strike until 06:00 a.m. on Thursday morning.
