Time has run out for Athens and Brussels. Before the Troika and our government, this was firstly understood by the European leaders who must deal with the danger of collapse in our country, while Portugal and Spain are about to seek help as well.

So, according to information on protothema.gr, they gave a 7-day deadline to Papademos and the Troika to join hands, otherwise they will move to "Plan b".

The question is “what is Plan b?”. Some believe that they will lead Greece into controlled default within the euro and others that they will issue eurobonds and cut money from the ECB. Of course, one should not exclude the occurrence of both, with our country becoming an example for the next one and the EU putting an end to the crisis it is now facing.

Also, they rejected the prospect of placing a European Commissioner in the ministry of Finance, in accordance with a previous German proposal. French President Nicolas Sarkozy said that he disagrees with this, as it would not be democratic and stated that Ms. Angela Merkel shares the same views.

The PSI and new measures must conclude by the end of the week, and leaders who support the government must make their support and their commitment to the agreement quite clear. “I think it is a commitment of the parties to supporting the government in fulfilling the commitments the country has to its partners and the completion and implementation of the new economic program,” Papademos said from Brussels.

Regarding the issue that blocks negotiations with the Troika, that is the 13th and 14th salaries, the prime minister stressed that the government has red lines, but when a deal is in progress it is illogical to mention these certain positions publicly.

He said , however, that he told European leaders that the Greek government is determined to implement any structural changes in order for the sacrifices of the Greeks to find fertile ground.

Asked whether he considers feasible the prospect of a new package of tough measures going through parliament he stressed that the government and himself believe that the MPs will act dutifully in the interest of the nation.

And when asked about the attitude of the MPs, he said “my estimation and expectations are that at this critical time Greek MPs will do their duty in the interest of the country.”

Maximos Mansion is preparing for all eventualities: closing the deal and then passing the necessary laws in parliament or managing a failure of the negotiations or the refusal of one or more leaders. The first case does not exclude a reshuffle for the government to obtain an order of battle that will serve itself and the parties. In the second case, things are simple: the country will be led to elections under the Damocles sword of default.

All the above will be examined in further meetings or a broad meeting between Papademos and George Papandreou, Antonis Samaras and George Karatzaferis at the end of the week.
