Confirming in all directions inside and outside the country that after
the completion of the PSI he will enforce elections, Samaras clarified
his positions on the critical developments in the PG of his party.
He justified his agreement to the Troika package by saying: "We are in great danger as a country, economic prosperity is lost and regained and now we are in danger of losing our freedom and independence. Once the bond exchange program is over we will seek the immediate dissolution of parliament. We are clear: We are able to enforce the election and we will do so. The party discipline issue is self-evident and anyone that does not follow will not be a candidate in the next election."
"We insist in our position that the recipe of the memorandum is wrong, our position is vindicated and accepted by everyone, but to talk about recovery in the first place the country should be there to stand on its feet. Things are not as they were two years ago or six months ago. Two years ago the debt was sustainable, now it is not."
Addressing his MPs he said "I know that many have had second thoughts about the developments. Those who consider our position unnatural compared to what we say, do not understand the damage the memorandum has done in the last two years. The fabric of society and the faith of the international community have collapsed."
He referred to the political landscape as reflected in the polls: "Right now ND is not only the first party in the polls, but the only party of power. PASOK is dissolving. Those who imposed the memorandum and mocked our attitudes have become a mess. LAOS leaves the government and will not vote. But the side parties are exploding. The Left, though fragmented, reaches 40%. This is reminiscent of the Weimar Republic and does not affect only Greece and Europe. Only those who speculate on the chaos have reason to attack ND."
"Responsibilities will not be erased, charging time will come at the next parliament. Since last October ND has been the regulator of developments, now we close the chapter of the memorandum and Papandreou’s governance and enter the election chapetr, which will work as a cooling aid to society. There has never been such disharmony in the parliament and the popular belief. Some fear the elections but the country never had such need of elections as it does today. If we don’t go to elections there is a big risk of social explosion."
He referred to his attitude in the past few days, saying he negotiated and avoided the worse for the country: the 13th and 14th salaries were saved, the abolition of the large family allowance prevented, the increase in objective values avoided too. He hinted against "those who say that there can be no negotiation."
"The loan agreement may start the stabilization, as we will get rid of 85 billion euros. But to have development we need a reliable party with a strong mandate that can govern. We are the only party left standing in the general collapse. This is the power of all of us, and you should guard it".
Lastly, he warned that the problem has gotten out of Greece and now threatens all of Europe and that the only way out is an overall shift towards development.
