The situation in the city center is out of control, with thousands of people marching in anger against the harsh measures that the government wants to impose, and with the battles against the usual suspects turning Athens into an inferno once more.

Twelve fires are raging at this hour in buildings and shops in Stadiou, Panepistimiou Sina and Phidiou streets.

A major fire is developing in Stadiou, where the former “Kosta Boda” shop and the “Attikon” and “Apollon” cinemas are ablaze, while the neighboring DOL building in Ch. Lada street is also under threat. The fire brigade managed to reach the spot a while ago, since due to the roadblocks in the streets access was very difficult.

A big fire broke out in Ippokratous and Academias, while the fire brigade is finding it hard to reach that location, as it is being attacked by hooded perpetrators.

A fire broke out at 21:45 on the corner of Georgiou Stavrou and Aiolou, while the “Asty” cinema and Eurobank in Korai went up in flames.

Damage has been caused to many shops in the city center, while there is information of looting in Panepistimiou.

Reportedly, there are 25 wounded who have been transported to the Gennimatas and Sotiria hospitals.

The fire brigade and the ambulance union have called for people to let them reach the areas where there is fire and wounded civilians.

At this time there is extensive use of chemicals along the route from Syntagma Square to Omonia Square, but also around Mitropoleos street and Amalias Boulevard, reaching as far as Hadrian’s Gate.
