With a simple but clear statement PASOK MPs Harris Kastanidis, Lambros Michos, Kyriaki Tectonidou, Maria Kyriakopoulou, Elias Theodoridis and Andreas Triantafyllopoulos, notify of their refusal to participate "in a vote in the Greek parliament, enforced upon the political system as the only option, ignoring the Greek people."
The six stress that despite the incredible sacrifices required there are serious doubts whether the memorandum may result in the saving of the country. "The financing agreements of Greece from the EFSF impose serious reallocation of resources in favor of banks at the expense of citizens. Who is entitled to make historically important decisions without the presence of the Greek people? Since when is the fate of an entire nation determined and sealed by 300 delegates who have not received this mandate by the Greek citizens?"
They argue that the solution is elections saying that "our democratic government system provides the means to the Greeks to decide and determine the country's path towards the future. The refusal of markets, the Brussels bureaucracy and the powerful of Europe to accept the direct democratic expression of popular sovereignty cannot be accepted." They express their full disagreement with the voting of the memorandum under urgent procedures because "it ostracizes the right of MPs to express their views on what needs to be done. And the most important thing of all is to place all important decisions for the future in the judgement of the Greek people."
