Election time in April, says the government

After the painful losses that PASOK and ND endured on Sunday night during the parliamentary vote for the new memorandum, the announcement by the government about the early elections that are said to take place in April is the first official governmental position-taking after Sunday's vote.

Through the government spokesman Pantelis Kapsis’s statement, it can be understood that the government wishes to go to early polls as soon as possible, straight after the PSI talks conclude. Now, the main aim is for Greece to avoid default and enter the pre-election period. In the meantime, it will become known if we will witness the creation of new parties and as a result, other and more party leaders.

Kapsis also announced that the reshuffle expected within the next few days is going to be small and will concern only the filling of present gaps. In this light, the rumours about Papademos being ready to recruit a new cabinet are ditched for good.

The question remains if there are going to be more position fillings - of all the ministers and deputy ministers who have stepped down - or just the necessary ones. For the moment, nobody knows if we will see technocrats in the reshuffled scheme or existing politicians-parliamentarians from PASOK and ND.
