Pillage at the museum of Ancient Olympia

Earlier this morning two hoodlums stole priceless ancient items from the museum of Ancient Olympia.

Reportedly, the two perpetrators broke in at 7:30am, tied up the female guard, kept her with them under the threat of a gun and took away at least 65 items by breaking the displaycases with a hammer.

The thieves snatched ancient gold jewelry, coins and other objects, the inventory of which has not been carried out yet as authorities are still collecting evidence. According to initial information, the thieves wore hoods and managed to leave before the police got to the museum.

The exhibits were from the site of Ancient Olympia and other areas of our country and were housed in the museum.

The ministry of Culture has already been informed and general secretary Lina Mendoni is expected at the scene at some point during the day.
