Kouvelos is trying to explain

Isidore Kouvelos, husband of Dora Bakoyiannis, is the person of the day as he proved to be the man who was accused in parliament by Panagiotis Nikoloudis, the chairman of the Authority for money laundering, for transferring 1 million euros abroad in March 2011. "I do not think he knows his job when he mixes up U.S. dollars with euros. The dollar comes from maritime trading. Can they tell me where I have smuggled one million euros from?", Kouvelos wondered in an interview on Vima FM radio station.

"Transfer of remittances is a common phenomenon worldwide," said Dora Bakoyannis' husband, explaining that "the money was not in Greece but in the U.S., invested in bonds and shares. Because the trustee company was Greek, it was required that the money had to transit through Greece."

"If I wanted to have the money abroad because of the crisis, why did I not leave it in New York and had to send it to London without a clear investment reason? It did not come from some treasure chest in Greece so that I would have to send it to London to secure it".

Indirectly he asked Nikoloudis to resign, saying that "somebody needs to put these public officials back in their place or they should have the sensitivity to resign. They cannot ridicule a man this way."

When asked by journalists if he intends to take legal action against the president of the Authority for money laundering he indirectly excluded such a possibility since Nikoloudis "did not say that anyone had commited a crime, he just said it was unethical".

"I'm not a politician, I'm a businessman, 37 years in shipping and I do not know these tricks. Our word is our contract. It turns out that it is wrong to marry a Greek politician. Your choice is to stop and go on retirement or you are at risk of being targeted".

"I have not been asked by the parliamentary committee, but the evidence is here and we will be more than happy to provide it again", he replied as to the possibility of being called for explanations again by the relevant parliamentary committee, headed by MP Vaggelis Argyris.
