A reshuffle out of nowhere was brought on by political “pileups” which emerged during the effort of the government to replace Christos Papoutsis  who resigned from his position as Minister of Citizen Protection in order to claim the presidency of PASOK, a development that confirms the story published on Monday on protothema.gr

After 17 months, Michalis Chrisohoidis finally returns to the Ministry of Citizen Protection, replacing Christos Papoutsis.

The position of Secretary of the Ministry of Citizen Protection will  be taken up by former Police chief and current secretary general of the ministry, Lefteris Economou, while current deputy minister Manolis Othonas will remain in place.

At the same time, Mrs. Diamantopoulou was appointed Minister of Development, Competitiveness and Finance and the Ministry of Education has been taken over by Professor George Babiniotis.

The new ministers and deputy minister will be sworn in before the president at 15:30pm on Wednesday.
