Kapsis: Specific deal on the government’s life span

Government spokesman Pantelis Kapsis and ND spokesman Yiannis Michelakis agreed that Papademos’ government has to fulfill a specific mission, after the completion of which the country will be led to elections

Government spokesman Pantelis Kapsis and ND spokesman Yiannis Michelakis agreed that Papademos’ government has to fulfill a specific mission, after the completion of which the country will be led to elections.

Speaking at an ONNED event, Kapsis said that the press contributed to the formation of Papademos’ government as the parties, while recognizing the need, found themselves under intense pressure from public opinion. But he added that "the media cannot extend the life of the government if there is a specific agreement."

Michelakis reiterated that Papademos’ government originated from an agreement between political leaders and has "to accomplish a specific mission, which is the PSI and the loan agreement; thus, it has a specific horizon."

He also said that "there are some powers that want to extend the life of Papademos’ government. They involve personal goals and party processes. However, these efforts are unsuccessful. Once the mission of the government is over we will go to the polls so that we can have a government with a mandate to lead the country out of the crisis."
