The Parliament Inquiry Committee investigating the case of ELSTAT. seems
to be evolving into a political guillotine for former Finance minister
George Papakonstantinou, as a series of critical statements by witnesses
place him on the side of the negative protagonists of the case.
According to information, the pounding against the former minister is expected to continue with the assumptions that will be made by idividuals who will testify in the coming days and from incriminating documents in the possession of several MPs.
The director of the Bank of Greece, George Provopoulos, is expected to appear in parliament today and there are many who believe that the powerful banker will stop covering Papakonstantinou.
On Monday, PDMA President Petros Christodoulou exposed Papakonstantinou irreparably saying "his mention of the Titanic was unfortunate" and talking about actions that disrupted the markets without reason.
According to information on protothema.gr, an MP/ member of the committee has evidence available showing that with "orders from above the indicators of the Greek economy were tampered with, e.g. the GDP was decreased, which worsened the country's image."
The evolution of the EL.STAT. case has brought desperation to Papakonstantinou, resulting in his attempts to stage continuous informal interventions to convince the committee members that he acted properly and that the final outcome should be a celebration of his political maneuvers and not a condemnation.

According to reports, in order to support his tactics, he does not hesitate to drop hints against Papandreou, noting that the latter is using him as a "scapegoat to save himself."
