The New Democracy party has found itself opposite all smaller parties, which apparently makes its members, and above all its leader Antonis Samaras, nervous. So uneasy does he feel that he opposes ex-ND politician Panos Kammenos, who recently created his own party, “Independent Greeks”.

Although the polls proved that, at least until now, ND party is on top of the voters’ preference list, finishing first by a secure distance from the second party, PASOK, albeit with neither of them indicating parliamentary autonomy. This irritates Samaras, proving that his plans for a strong negotiation card between him and the leaders abroad cannot be realized without autonomy. Nevertheless, his major hope was to cling to power on his own, with no parliamentary companions on his side.
In the framework of his furious comments, the ND head attacked the “tiny” parties surrounding his own, resembling “pests”, and so did other ND members such as the latest transfer from LAOS, MP Adonis Georgiadis, who called Panos Kammenos a demagogue.
Moreover, Kammenos was also mentioned because of how he handled cases related to the Athens Stock Market in 2000, or the use of helicopters when he was deputy Marine minister.
The leader of Independent Greeks passed the ball back to his critics, also accusing them of similar “offences”.
Last but not least, Kammenos underlines that what bothers his political opponents the most is the fact that people seem to be in support of his party and the policies he follows, making him a very possible “solution-choice” - for the people who will flock to the polls- in the upcoming elections.
