Those who thought that in international markets, Greece exports oranges, lemons, olive oil and fresh fish are mistaken. The recent survey of the Panhellenic Exporters' Association and the Center for Export Research and Studies, which compares the export performance of the country in the 2010-2011 biennium, refutes them triumphantly.

Mineral oil, aluminum products, providing specialized services and technology products are very high on the list of Greek exports while new markets, which are making remarkable profits, are absorbing more and more Greek products.

According to the survey, the list of 100 most exportable Greek products records 15 new entries, mainly aluminum products, building materials, fertilizers and data transfer devices. Increased exports are recorded in strawberries, smoked fish, bottled water and toys.

Instead, the top 100 of 2011 lacks such products as bakery and confectionery, tangerines, melons, hormonal medication, toiletries and ships. The data also shows the crisis in the sector of textiles and clothing.

As Panhellenic Exporters Association president Christina Sakellaridi says, "data shows that Greece produces and exports high quality products, expertise and innovation. From the primary sector and agricultural products to new technologies and services, come forces and prospects able to bring about a permanent transformation of the production standard of the country."

Italians are our friends…

At the top of the main destinations of Greek exports is Italy, with Germany in second place. A remarkable climb up 3 positions has been recorded in neighboring Turkey, displacing Cyprus from third place. Also, the growth in ship supplies to third countries, internationally counted as a separate market in international trade, continued for one more year. Supplies are now ranked in the top five destination markets, over Bulgaria and the USA.

Uzbekistan is No 1 in exports increase

In 2011 the value of Greek exports increased by 37% (to € 22.451 million against € 16.391,8 in 2010). The largest export increases were recorded in: Uzbekistan (1044%, € 7,9 million), Argentina (645%), Singapore (470.6%), Georgia (434.1%), Saudi Arabia (145%) , South Korea (143%), United Emirates (123.9%), Syria (109.8%), Turkey (104.2%), China (81.9%), USA (81%) , the Ukraine (75.7%), Brazil (72.4%), Israel (67.1%) and Egypt (65.9%).

Greece's exports fell in just 23 countries: Jordan (-49.2%), Niger (-48%), Bahrain (-47%), Philippines (-40%), Iceland (-35.7%), Mexico (-32%), Bahamas (-31%), Kazakhstan (-28%), Libya (-23%), Azerbaijan (-18.3%), Iraq (-17.2%), Qatar (-16 %), Switzerland (-16%), Morocco (-14.5%), India (-12.9%), Ireland (-11.2%), Belarus (-8.2%), Sweden (-6 2%), Latvia (-4.6%), South Africa (-4%), Japan (-3.2%), Germany (-2%) and Romania (-1%).

It is estimated that Greece maintains trade relations with 217 countries.
